The anime movie Brave Story, a $10 million collaboration between Gonzo Digimation and Fuji Television Network, will show at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on Monday, May 22.

Gonzo and Fuji made the all-ages fantasy film to compete directly with Studio Ghibli's Hiyao Miyazaki, who created such hits as Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke. Warner Bros., which recently distributed the underachieving Yu-Gi-Oh in the U.S., picked up the rights to Brave Story, based on the novel by Miyuki Miyabe, in January 2005.

Brave Story will be released in Japan in the summer. Warners is waiting to see how the film does before committing to a U.S. release.
