Alan Moore has agreed to voice himself in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.
The episode, entitled "Husbands and Knives," a new comic books store opens in Springfield, competing with the more-established Android's Dungeon, run by Comic Book Guy (Hank Azaria). The new store even convinces the notoriously publicity-shy Moore to make an appearance, endangering Comic Book Guy's livelihood. There is no word as yet on when the episode will air.
According to the 53-year-old writer, one of The Simpsons' producers approached him through his fiancée, The Lost Girls artist Melinda Gebbie.
"Mel was in America promoting our new book The Lost Girls," Moore told Northants News, "and one of The Simpsons producers spoke to her and asked if I would be in the show. "She said: 'Why don't you give him a ring he's very approachable'. "I was happy to do it. I'm a big fan of The Simpsons."
Moore, who wrote such acclaimed works as From Hell, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta and The Watchmen, has been credited, along with Frank Miller (300, Sin City) and Neil Gaiman (Sandman), with establishing graphic novels as a respected literary genre.
He is currently promoting the erotic graphic novel The Lost Girls, and watching in horror as his other works are slowly being adapted for the silver screen.
