Here is another poster for the upcoming live-action/hybrid movie Arthur and the Minimoys, courtesy of DVDrama. The movie, based on director Luc Besson's storybook of the same name, is about Arthur (played by Freddie Highmore from Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) who gets sucked into the world of the Minimoys, tiny creatures who live in his grandmother (Mia Farrow)'s garden. David Bowie, Snoop Dogg and Madonna will voice some of the Minimoys.
Luc Besson, David Bowie, Mia Farrow and Snoop Dogg: yeah, I think this flick has got some serious CQ (Coolness Quotient). Enough to overcome the box-office poison that is Madonna? I hope so.
However, there's been some controversy over this movie's title; similar to the idiocy that caused Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to be renamed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stonein the U.S. I think anyone who has read the book knows how colossally brain-dead *that* decision was.
Apparently, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the Weinstein Company are suffering from a similar stupidity. They think Americans are too dumb to get the word "Minimoys" and so they want to retitle the film, Arthur and the Invisibles. All I can say is, with minds like that in Hollywood, no wonder so many movies made these days suck!
However it will be called, Arthur and the Minimoys opens January 12, 2007.
