On November 16, 2007, Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf will go 3-D, opening on more than a thousand enhanced theatres in what is being called the largest day-and-date, large-format 3-D release ever.

The digitally-rotoscoped movie, which features the talents of Ray Winstone (Beowulf's voice), Angelina Jolie (Grendel's Mother), Crispin Glover (Grendel) and Sir Anthony Hopkins (King Hrothgar), will open on a thousand Real D screens and a large number of as-of-yet undisclosed 3-D theatres. It is believed these will be IMAX, although no deal has yet been signed. Beowulf will also be widely released in traditional theatres. It is a Paramount/Warner Bros. co-production.

Neil Gaiman (Stardust, Mirrormask) and Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction, Silent Hill) wrote the screenplay for Beowulf, which was "inspired" by the 9th Century Old English poem, which rose to literary prominence after J.R.R. Tolkien's 1936 article.

Beowulf will be Zemeckis' 3rd foray into animated 3-D. His first, 2004's Polar Express, made $46 million in IMAX theatres, while last summer's Monster House earned over $10 million in 178 Real-D theatres.
