Despite taking a well-deserved hammering from critics, 2003's Brother Bear somehow made enough change that Disney suits authorized a direct-to-DVD sequel. According to plot synopsis, Kenai and Koda have to go on "this big, exciting journey" (direct quote from the site) to break their pact, so that Kenai can become human again.
Despite the movie not even having any clips online, Brother Bear 2 has already won fulsome praise from the usual sources, with Bryan Erdy (NBC TV) saying the flick is "sure to become another Disney classic" and Clay Smith (The Insider) claiming "Brother Bear 2 is even better than the original!" Yeesh.
Oh yeah, Melissa Etheridge goes all Phil Collins-y on the soundtrack. Double yeesh.
I also noticed that Joaquin Phoenix gave this flick a pass (he voiced the lead character in the original. Patrick Dempsey takes over here), but pretty much everyone else, including Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as "Canadian Moose," returns. Not only that, the SCTV invasion continues with Catherine O'Hara and Andrea Martin as Moosettes. Oh yeah, and there's also Mandy Moore.
