Disney/Pixar animated film takes in over $68 million, tops box office. Pixar extends winning streak to seven movies.
(Source:Box Office Mojo) Cars was the big winner at the box office this weekend, more than tripling its nearest competition's take. The Disney/Pixar animated film grossed $62,800,000, while the 2nd place finisher, the live-action The Break-Up raked in $20,495,000. It's also worth noting that Cars made more money in one weekend than 10th place finisher Poseidon did in 5 weeks ($54,935,000). The only cloud was that Cars took in slightly less in its opening weekend than 2004's The Incredibles ($70,467,623). However, considering that animated family films tend to last longer at the box office than their live-action brethren, it's safe to say that Cars is another hit for Disney/Pixar. The Top 5: - Cars: $62,800,000 - The Break-Up: $20,495,000 - X-Men: The Last Stand: $15,550,000 - The Omen: $15,450,000 - Over the Hedge: $10,301,000
