I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman's stories, but I'm cautiously optimistic about Laika Entertainment's upcoming adaption of Gaiman's bestselling children's novel Coraline. I loved the book, but Mirrormask was a tough movie for a Gaiman fan to sit through.

Be that as it may, Laika announced that Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will voice the roles of Miss Forcible and Miss Spink, Coraline's bizarre neighbors.

The duo are best known from the British TV show French & Saunders. A skit from that show served as the basis for Absolutely Fabulous. Saunders also voiced the Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2 while French voiced the role of Mrs. Beaver in 2005's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

French and Saunders join Dakota Fanning, who will voice the title character, and Teri Hatcher, who takes on the dual role of Coraline's mother.

The pic is from a proposed one-sheet. I like it; it fits the creepy vibe of the book. Let's hope the script (by Henry Selick) matches the visual. You can see a larger version here.

Coraline is set to hit theatres in 2007.
