Dora the Explorer thrilled Edmonton children when it was announced that her stage show would come to Edmonton's Rexall Centre on Saturday, June 17. However, there's one small hitch: that's also the night the Edmonton Oilers will host the Carolina Hurricanes for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final.
The conflict came up on Tuesday, when the NHL released the schedule for the Stanley Cup series. Several sports pundits, including Damien Cox of the Toronto Star have predicted the Oilers will win the Cup in six games.
Dora the Explorer follows the adventures of the Latina heroine, with her sidekick Boots the Monkey and her talking backpack. Dora her friends speak both Spanish and English, and her friends and audience members help her overcome various difficulties in both languages. It airs on Nickelodeon in the United States and on Treehouse TV in Canada.
Rexall Place spokeswoman Bonni Clark said the NHL and the arena were working with Dora organizers to sort out the snafu.
"Everyone is working together to accommodate everyone," she said. No further details have been released.
This is the 2nd time this year that Dora has conflicted with the NHL. The stage show had booked Ottawa's Scotia Bank Centre for May 6 and 7, forcing the Senators to postpone Game 2 of their series against the Buffalo Sabres.
