As promised, I've dug up some more information on Paramount's upcoming movie adaptation of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Dragonlance novels.

According to all reports, this will be a feature-length animated theatrical release, scheduled for August 2007.

Author Margaret Weis has confirmed that this movie will be based on Dragons of Autumn Twilight, the first book in the Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy. This guarantees a minimum of two sequels, should the first film do well at the box office. Weis & Hickman also wrote a second trilogy, called Dragonlance: Legends.

As I reported here, Xena actor Lucy Lawless has performed the voice of barbarian princess Goldmoon. According to Dragonlance forums, Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor, Smallville) will voice the character of Tanis Half-Elven and Jason Marsden (Chester McBadbat, The Fairly Oddparents) will voice kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot.

Animator/comic writer Will Meugniot (X-Men, Stargate: Infinity) will direct the movie. TV writer George Strayton (Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) has written the script, with extensive assistance from Weis and Hickman.

Weis recently told Sci-Fi Wire, "I read the script, and I like it. It's very faithful to the book."

Check out the film's official site for more details.
