Animated movie about a boy hunting for Babe Ruth's bat comes to movie screens September 15.
(Source: Latino Review) Once again, the good folks at Latino Review have scarfed up some pics of Fox/IDT's upcoming animated film Everyone's Hero. Once again, here's the official synopsis of the flick. "In Everyone's Hero, a young boy (Jake T. Austin) finds himself at an extraordinary crossroads: He has a chance to be a hero - and make a difference against incredible odds - or he can play it safe. With faith in himself instilled by his family, he teams up with a sassy (Writer's note: "sassy" in this context is Hollywoodese for "African-American") young girl (Raven-Symoné) and some off-the-wall sidekicks and embarks on a sometimes perilous, often funny, cross-country quest. In the process, he restores his family's honor, befriends the world's biggest sports superstar, and reveals the hero within. Christopher Reeve was the original director on this computer-generated animated feature, the late actor-director's dream project." Well, that was singularly uninformative. Here's my version: Everyone's Hero is about a baseball-obsessed kid whose dad takes the fall when Babe Ruth's favourite bat (voiced by Whoopi Goldberg) gets stolen. The kid goes on a thousand-mile journey to help recover the baseball great's bat so that the Yankees can win the World Series. I'm having mixed thoughts about Everyone's Hero. Any time someone says "heartwarming" in the ad copy of a movie, I substitute "heartburn." Cynical, I is. That said, I want to like this movie mainly because it was a pet project of the late, great Christopher Reeve. However, the fact that Reeve and his wife both died before the film's completion worries me, since they weren't there to cut through all the Hollywood B.S. that goes on whenever somebody makes a picture. Yeah, they're touting Everyone's Hero as Reeve's "dream project," but how much of his vision actually made it to the end product? I guess we'll find out when Everyone's Hero opens September 15. You can check out more of the pics here. Fun fact: the chocolate bar Baby Ruth was named after George Herman "Babe" Ruth, but the Curtiss Candy Co. inserted the 'y' for the 'e' to avoid paying the baseball great any royalties.
