Do you like seeing how other countries try to market a movie? Check out the Japanese poster for DreamWorks/Aardman's Flushed Away.
(Source: www.impawards.com) It's always interesting to see different posters for the same movie. Especially since I agree with JoBlo's rant that the international posters for movies are more interesting than the domestic ones. Take the Japanese poster for DreamWorks/Aardman's Flushed Away. Unlike the domestic poster's "Roddy's in Trouble" aesthetic, we're treated to a Romancing the Stone/Raiders of the Lost Ark-style image, with Roddy and Rita being chased by various bad guys. Ian McKellen's Toad character is tossed in favour of Le Frog and his wetsuited ninjas. However, we do get Spike and Whitey gamely trying to keep up with the frogs. I also had to chuckle since, in the movie, Rita's the competent rat and Roddy's the one who keeps getting them into trouble. I guess some cultural baggage can't be dispensed with that easily. Oh yes, and it's always nice to see Aardman get their due for doing the dirty work on this flick, since this one proudly mentions, "From the creators of Shrek and Wallace and Gromit." You can see the Japanese Flushed Away poster in all its glory here.
