Kelly Ripa (Live with Regis and Kelly) will join the cast for the animated feature film Fly Me to the Moon.
Produced by Illuminata and nWave Pictures, the group responsible for nearly 1/4 of all IMAX 3D releases,
Set in 1969, Fly Me to the Moon follows the adventures of three young flies as they stow away on the Apollo 11 flight.
Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Adrienne Barbeau (The Drew Carey Show), Ed Begley Jr. (Six Feet Under), Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show), Trevor Gagnon (Big Fish), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Robert Patrick (Walk the Line, Terminator 2) and Nicollette Sheridan (Desperate Housewives) will also voice characters in the flick.
Fly Me to the Moon is unusual in that it's the first CG animated film to be conceived and filmed entirely in 3D.
"Recent advances in computer technology make it possible to convert 2D films to 3D. However, with Fly Me To The Moon, we are taking it a step further by producing every frame in 3D for the maximum effect," says director/nWave co-founder Ben Stassen.
"With more 3-D films entering the market, such as Monster House and Meet the Robinsons, more theaters are adopting 3D capabilities. By the time we release Fly Me To The Moon in 2007, we anticipate that there will be approximately 700 specialized digital theaters, while in 2005, there were only 300 3D theaters available," added writer/executive producer, and Illuminata Pictures co-founder, Domonic Paris.
"As the first true 3D release," Stassen said, "Fly Me To The Moon has the incredible benefit that it cannot be pirated, and it also has a larger and longer shelf life."
