Gilliam to direct Gorillaz movie?filmmaker may direct film about virtual band
Damon Albarn of Gorillaz reveals in an interview that he's working with Terry Gilliam on a movie about the virtual band.
(Source: filmick.blogspot.com) As you know, I'm conflicted about printing any rumours on this site, mainly because I don't want to get caught out when they go wahoonie-shaped. Also, I especially don't like reporting it if it's a harmful rumour: that's why I held off on the whole Miyazaki father/son feud until I had some independent confirmation to back it up. That said, I'm intrigued by a tidbit musician Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) dropped in an interview with Uncut magazine. He mentions that working with the 'virtual band' he formed with Tank Girl creator Jamie Hewlett "has been a fantastic journey which isn't over because we're making a film. We've got Terry Gilliam involved." To add gasoline to the fire, Gilliam has been talking about a movie (from an unknown writer) that "I can do it in six weeks, just knock it out." Some people are saying that the Gorillaz film could be this 'six-week' project that Gilliam's referring to. Considering the cartoonish quality of Gorillaz, Hewlett's comic book background, and the fact that Gilliam got his start doing cut-out animation for Monty Python's Flying Circus, this would make sense as an animated film. Also, Albarn (by his own admission) is a terrible actor, so a live-action film would be doomed from the start. On my part, I hope this comes off. I've always had a fondness for Gilliam's work (I, along with J.K. Rowling, was very unhappy that he wasn't allowed to direct the Harry Potter movies) and I'd like to see more animated work from him. What do you think?
