Happy Feet keeps top spotanimated penguin movie tops box office for 2nd weekNov 27, 2006 Dominic von Riedemann
Warner Bros.' Happy Feet keeps the top spot over the Thanksgiving weekend and cracks the $100 million mark in the process.
(Source: www.boxofficemojo.com) The toe-tapping penguins in Happy Feet managed to retain the top spot over the Thanksgiving weekend, adding another $37,945,000 to its coffers. The animated movie beat off attempts by two live-action challengers: Casino Royale (which has shown better "legs" than previous James Bond flicks) and Denzel Washington irritating Frenchmen everywhere by mispronouncing Deja Vu. That, combined with its earnings during the week, put Happy Feet's profits just over the $100 million mark, and has ensured any more revenue generated will be a profit (the movie cost $100 million to make). Further down the list, DreamWorks/Aardman's Flushed Away fell to the #8 spot, making a mere $5,841,000. DreamWorks Animation has all but given up on this movie, applying to the SEC for a write-down on costs for Flushed Away, which spiraled to $149 million. On the plus side, the flick has yet to open in several key international markets, including Aardman's home turf of Britain. Here is ye olde incompleat list. I'll print up the full numbers when they come out on Tuesday or Wednesday. 1) Happy Feet (W.B.): $37,945,000 ($100,126,000 over 2 weeks) 8) Flushed Away (DW/Par.): $5,841,000 ($57,366,000 over 4 weeks)
