Box-Office standings
1) The Breakup
2) X-Men: The Last Stand
3) Over the Hedge
4) Da Vinci Code
5) Mission Impossible III
(Source: IMDb.com) Dreamworks' animated feature film Over the Hedge held on to slide into 3rd place at last weekend's box office. After 3 weeks, it finally posted better numbers than the live-action The Da Vinci Code, which came out the same weekend. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that family films (especially animated ones) have better "legs" than most movies, so they tend to hang on longer at the top. Parents will often accompany their kids to see a family flick, which automatically adds more revenue. Mixed reviews and worldwide protests have also hurt Code's box office. It lost 43% of its audience from the previous weekend. The big story last weekend was the sudden fall of the live-action X-Men: The Last Stand. The comic-inspired movie lost 67% of its audience from the previous weekend. It made $34.3 million at the box office (coincidentally, that's also Over the Hedge's initial take). All in all, Over the Hedge can be declared a hit, and will make for an interesting showdown when Pixar's Cars hits theatres June 9. Who will win the Battle of the Animated Flicks? Let us know below.
