On December 5th, Geneon Entertainment Inc. will release Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 1, the first in a potential series based on Kouta Hirano's best-selling horror manga. The 50-minute OVA has a MSRP of $24.98, with a limited edition version retailing for $44.98.

Hellsing follows the adventures of the Hellsing organization, a group formed by vampire hunter Integra Hellsing, that combats various supernatural monsters. Hellsing's greatest warrior (and the manga's hero) is a charismatic vampire hunter named Alucard, who is none other than Count Dracula himself. The Hellsing manga is a very strong title both in Japan and North America (distributed by Dark Horse). The 8th volume is currently out in Japan, and Dark Horse is currently translating it for a 2007 release.

In 2001, Gonzo produced a 13-episode Hellsing series that made sizable changes to the characters and plot. Geneon promises that the new OVA (animated by Satelight Studios) will retell the story of the first volume, as well as reunite the English dub cast from the Gonzo anime. There are no plans to show the new Hellsing OVA on North American TV, although Starz/Encore Action Channel did air the Gonzo series in 2003.

Geneon/Satelight has already released a Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 2 OVA in Japan. It's due in North America in the spring of 2007.
