The Jim Henson Company is putting together a new late-night talk show for TBS, called Late Night Buffet. The show will feature celebrity guests, and will be taped in front of a live studio audience.
TBS, which is looking to break into the late-night cable arena, has ordered a half-hour pilot episode, to be filmed July 22, in Hollywood. TBS brass will then decide if they want to order an entire season of Late Night Buffet, which would be part of TBS' line-up making its debut next year.
The show will not feature Kermit or any other members of The Muppet Show, since Disney now owns those properties. Instead, Brian Henson and Bill Baretta are creating new characters for the show. The host of Late Night Buffet will be a muppet called Augustus Pfiffle, along with his sidekick Delbert Kastle. The house band, called Gina Cappellini and her Pet Monkeys, will also be muppets.
Late Night Buffet will be highly improvised, with very little script direction. The show's humour will be aimed at a more adult audience, befitting the intended time slot.
