Illumitoon gets BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBojoins with Westlake Entertainment to distribute surreal anime on DVD
Illumitoon Entertainment and Westlake Entertainment are joining forces to distribute Toei Animation's BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo. Will distribute first 50 episodes on DVD.
(Source: www.icv2.com) Illumitoon Entertainment and Westlake Entertainment have announced that they will jointly distribute the wacky and surreal anime BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo (also called Bo7x or Bo-bobo). Originally created as a manga by Yoshio Sawai, Bo-bobo is acclaimed for its bizarre sensibilities, surreal sense of humour (the hero often confuses his enemies into submission) and its relentless mockery of other animes, and anime conventions. The anime follows the adventures of warrior BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo, master of the martial art "Hanage Shinken" (Fist of the Nosehair). Bo-bobo works with his bizarre cohorts: the insane Don Patch; the ice cream-headed Softon; Beauty, the obligatory teenage girl; and teenage Heppokomaru, martial arts master of the "Onara Shinken" (Fist of the Backwind). The anime is also well-known for its highly-successful English dub, which occasionally sacrifices accuracy to maintain the twisted humour of the anime. Bo-bobo currently airs on Cartoon Network's Saturday night Toonami block at 10 pm. The DVD featuring the first 50 episodes of Bo-bobo is scheduled to hit shelves in January of 2007. There is no word as to when Illumitoon and Westlake will release the other 26 episodes, if at all.
