Chinese action director dumps He-Man project, Stewart Beattie takes over script for Spy Hunter.

John Woo had his considerable workload lightened recently. The Killer director was slated to work on a live-action version of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, a film adaptation of Spy Hunter, The Battle of Red Cliff (with Chow-Yun Fat), and something else called The Red Circle.

However, the He-Man project has been shelved (much to my relief) and Spy Hunter is going back to the drawing board. According to one of the movie's producers, John Woo hasn't been involved with the project for 18 months and Stewart Beattie is reworking the script. The producers hope to announce a new director shortly.

So congratulations are due to John Woo for getting away from He-Man and getting back together with Chow-Yun Fat. We need more flicks like The Killer and Hard Boiled. "Pass me another clip, Dumbo!"
