The Muppet Show's Kermit the Frog joins Robert Osborne on Turner Classic Movies, and discusses his favourite flicks.
Ever wonder what movies Kermit the Frog likes to watch when he's kicking back on his Lily Pad of Love? Me neither, but apparently it's quite the burning question for Robert Osborne and Turner Classic Movies. On Wednesday, November 21st, Kermit the Frog will join Osborne as part of TCM's Guest Programmer series, discussing the long-legged amphibian's favourite flicks and why he likes them. Here's the official explanation, courtesy of the Turner Press Room: "TCM’s GUEST PROGRAMMER series, which regularly airs one night each month, is taking over the entire month of November, with 29 famous talents programming 29 nights that they will co-host with TCM’s Robert Osborne. Celebrities exchange their star status for a role as a devoted fan of classic film by picking a selection of his or her favorite movies and sharing with viewers what he or she has come to love about each one. "Among the star-studded list of celebrities sitting down with Osborne to present their favorite films are Whoopi Goldberg on Nov. 1; Donald Trump on Nov. 3; Danny DeVito on Nov. 10; Matt Groening on Nov. 14; Tracy Ullman on Nov. 17; Alec Baldwin on Nov. 20; Kermit the Frog (boldcaps mine) on Nov. 21; Harvey Fierstein on Nov. 26 and Martha Stewart on Nov. 30." What are Kermit the Frog's Fave Flicks?Apparently the Green Guy digs such family-friendly fare as:
Not bad for a frog. I can take or leave the Lassie flick, but Singin' in the Rain is an acknowledged classic, The Band Wagon has its fans, and Depardieu totally rocked the house with Cyrano de Bergerac, a role he was born to play. So, a solid three out of four. Sharp-eyed readers will also notice that The Simpsons creator Matt Groening is also part of the TCM Guest Programmer line-up. Unfortunately, there's no word on what flicks Groening digs but, considering the often subversive nature of The Simpsons' humour, rest assured there should be some real eye-openers in there. Fun Fact: Actor Gérard Depardieu was considered a lock for the 1990 Best Actor Oscar for Cyrano de Bergerac, until Time magazine ran a profile that claimed he had participated in a sexual assault when he was nine years old. The claim was based on an interview carried out 13 years earlier and was apparently the result of an incorrect translation. Unfortunately, the resulting controversy cost Depardieu his much-deserved win.
