Last Thursday, I showed you the artwork for the special lenticular packaging of Jim Henson's under-appreciated 1980's classics Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. Now, thanks to the good folks at Muppet Newsflash, I can now tell you (nearly) all the goodies that are going into these two lavish DVD re-issues.
Let's start last-to-first, beginning with 1986's Labyrinth, which starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Here's what's going into the Labyrinth Anniversary Edition DVD set (21st Anniversary not really having all that great a ring to it).
• Labyrinth (2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen)
• English and Japanese Dolby-Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
• Portuguese Stereo Sound
• English, French, Japanese and Portuguese subtitles
• Feature-length audio commentary by Brian Froud
• "Inside the Labyrinth": The original 1986 making-of documentary
• Drawings & Designs
• "Journey Through the Labyrinth": Two all-new behind-the-scenes documentaries that include re-discovered footage from the Henson archives and newly recorded interviews with those who helped create Labyrinth (including George Lucas, Brian Henson, Brian Froud, Karen Prell, Dave Goelz, Mira Velimorivic, Gates McFadden, Toby Froud, Jane Gootnick and others).
. . . and much more.
Next up, here are the deets for The Dark Crystal 25th Anniversary DVD.

And did I mention much more?
Both DVD box sets are coming out on August 24th, and have a MSRP of $24.99.
Continuing with The Dark Crystal, fans of Trevor Jones' original score will get a chance to have it on CD. It will be called The Dark Crystal: 25th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack, and it will be performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marcus Dods. La La Land Records will release it on CD on July 14th. There isn't any further information available, that that should keep all you Dark Crystal fans salivating.
Fun fact: Gennady Tartovsky is directing a CGI-and-puppetry sequel to The Dark Crystal, called Power of the Dark Crystal. It is scheduled to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2008. Brian Froud is once again the conceptual designer for the flick, with David Odell and Annette Duffy writing the script and Trevor Jones returning for the soundtrack.
Here's the official synopsis (WARNING: SPOILER ALERT):
"Power of the Dark Crystal is set many years after the events of the first movie. Jen and Kira, the gelflings, are older and are reigning as king and queen in the Castle of the Crystal. After the Gelflings welcome a fiery. and unexpected visitor. to their castle they learn that the very existence of the U-mun people, who live in the searing heat in the center of the planet, is threatened by the death of their sun. There is apparently only one thing powerful enough to heal the dying sun - a shard of the Crystal.
"The Gelflings refuse the request for a crystal shard, as breaking the crystal would disturb the peaceful surface world's balance. But the desperate visitor takes matters into her own hands and steals a shard, making a hasty escape through tunnels deep in the bowels of the castle. The surface world once again falls into darkness - as the UrSkek split into Mystics and Skeksis. So begins the adventure of Thurma, a girl 'made of fire,' who bands together with Kensho, an outcast Gelfling, in an adventure in the 'inner-world' over the fate of the planet."
