Lionsgate announced Monday that they had acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights for Happily N' Ever After, an animated family film.

Directed by Paul J. Bolger and written by Robert Moreland, Happily N' Ever After is a satirical spin on classic fairy tales, a la Hoodwinked. Ella (voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar) must organize a resistance when her wicked stepmother (Sigourney Weaver) puts together an alliance of villains. The movie also features Freddie Prinze Jr., George Carlin, Andy Dick and Patrick Warburton.

"Happily N'Ever After epitomizes the kind of quality films that Lionsgate seeks to bring to families everywhere," said Ken Katsumoto, executive vice-president of Lionsgate Family Entertainment. "It's bursting with clever ideas, great jokes and delightful characters, and the animation is first-rate. Paul J. Bolger, Robert Moreland and an inspired cast have made a film that's sure to be a hit with the whole family."

John H. Williams (Shrek), BAF Berlin Animation Film and BFC Berliner Film Companie produced the movie. Ralph Kamp and Louise Goodsill of Odyssey Entertainment acted as co-executive producers.

No release date as yet been announced.
