Manson does Nightmare soundtrack2-disc soundtrack to Tim Burton film released October 24Panic! at the Disco, Marilyn Manson, Fall Out Boy and Fiona Apple among those interpreting songs from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas.
(Source: MTV Asia) When Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas first hit theatres in late 1993, only the critics went nuts for it. The film's initial $50 million box office take didn't impress Disney, who hoped the Batman auteur would make more money for them. However, the stop-motion animated musical quickly made waves on the home video market, turning the film into a bona fide cult hit. Now that Disney is re-releasing The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D (coming to select theatres October 20), the Mouse House is also putting out a 2-disc soundtrack featuring various artists covering former Oingo Boingo frontman/composer Danny Elfman's songs. Emo punks Fall Out Boy cover "What's This?" (orignally sung by Elfman himself) while Panic! at the Disco and Marilyn Manson offer different versions of "This Is Halloween." Fiona Apple takes on "Sally's Song," while She Wants Revenge covers "Oogie Boogie's Song." The CD also features demo versions of "Making Christmas" and "Oogie Boogie's Song." The second disc features Elfman's original score in its entirety. "Disney approached our management about us doing a song," says Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. "And we're obsessed with that film and Danny Elfman. And of course I've got my Nightmare tattoos, so we were like, 'Yes!'" It's worth noting that Nightmare in 3-D is being billed as a Disney production. When Disney first released Nightmare in 1993, then-chairman Michael Eisner switched the production to Touchstone Pictures because he felt the movie was "too dark" for kids.
