Marvel, Lionsgate Brings Classic Comic Battles to DVD

One of the biggest thrills in comic-book fandom is predicting the outcome of cage matches between various superheroes. Batman vs. Superman, Spider-Man vs. Captain America, Lobo versus . . . just about anybody.
Which makes it a no-brainer for Marvel and Lionsgate to bring two of their biggest, baddest superhero smackdowns to direct-to-DVD.
Hulk Versus Wolverine, Hulk Versus Thor
The biggest, baddest fighting machine in the Marvel stable is Bruce Banner, AKA The Incredible Hulk. A mild-mannered scientist who becomes mean and green when someone ticks him off, Hulk has always been good to go when the script calls for some screw-the-property-values-and-terrify-the-insurance-adjustor mayhem. And the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release Hulk Vs. ups the ante by pitting the big green guy against a certain adamantium-laced berserker and a hammer-wielding Norse god.

The second (and more anticipated) showdown is Hulk Versus Wolverine, an adaptation of the legendary rumble in 1974's The Incredible Hulk Issue #181. That comic was also Wolverine's first full-length debut. Marvel has posted a trailer for that episode, which can be viewed by clicking here.
"My name . . . is Wolverine," says Marvel's favourite Canucklehead, voiced by Mark Hamill (AKA Luke Skywalker, AKA The Joker), in the opening seconds of this trailer. "I'm the best there is at what I do. And what I do . . . isn't very nice."
Mmm, gotta love them goosebumps.
Hulk Versus Wolverine Synopsis
Here's what Marvel's website has to say about this showdown.
"ALBERTA, Canada. Over the past week, THE INCREDIBLE HULK has been tearing a line across the Canadian wilderness, leaving a swathe of destruction in his wake. He has to be stopped, and there's only one man up to the job.
"He's the best at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice.
"He's WOLVERINE, an elite agent of Canada's top secret Department H, and he's been put on Hulk's trail with a single objective: stop the Green Goliath . . . at all costs.
"Hulk and Wolverine are about to enter the fiercest battle of their lives. And they have no idea that there are a few unpleasant surprises waiting for them on the other side."
Yep, that's 33 minutes of Hulk and Wolverine battling it out across the Canadian wilderness. Although this DVD won't be available until January of 2009, supervising producer/co-writer Craig Kyle, producer/supervising director Frank Paur, and co-writer Christopher Yost will be screening the Hulk Vs. Wolverine smackdown on Thursday, July 24th at the San Diego Comic Con. The fun happens at 4:15 pm at Hall H.
