Puppeteer Mary Ritts died of natural causes, May 14 in a Pasadena retirement home, announced her son Mark. She, along with her husband Paul Ritts, created and performed the popular and long-running Ritts Puppet act on television.

The Ritts' puppetry career started in the early 1950's when Paul Ritts, a sportscast director, made a puppet called Albert the Chipmunk for CBS affiliate WCAU-TV. Mary, a trained artist, painted the puppet.

In the 1960's and 1970's, the Ritts did a series of well-received ads for the Better Business Bureau, which featured their puppets Sir Geoffrey the Giraffe, and Magnolia the Ostrich.
