James Bond couldn't do it. Leonardo DiCaprio couldn't do it. Not even a kinder, gentler Bible story could pull it off. So leave it to Apocalypto, a movie everyone claimed would be the bomb of the season, to knock Happy Feet off its perch.
That said, George Miller's animated flick about a tap-dancing penguin is still a pretty fierce contender. It took another $12,904,413 to its 4-week total of $137,932,841. Keep in mind that everything after the $100 million is all profit, baby.
In other news, Flushed Away isn't just circling the drains. It's going straight down. It plummeted to the #16 spot for its 6th week, adding $835,368 to its $61,214,583 total. It's a shame because most people I've talked to (parents especially) enjoyed the flick, but the way Flushed Away's costs skyrocketed during production doomed it right from the start.
Here's the complete list:
2) Happy Feet (W.B.): $12,904,413 ($137,932,841 over 4 weeks)
16) Flushed Away (DW/Aardman): $835,368 ($61,214,583 over 6 weeks)
48) Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D (B.V.): $27,676 ($8,579,257 over 8 weeks)
89) Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss (Indic.): $1,894 ($173,097 over 7 weeks)
