Barnyard hangs on in the Top 10 while Monster House slides to 14, and we bid a not-so-fond farewell to The Ant Bully
(Source: Box Office Mojo) So Snakes on a Plane didn't take down Talladega Nights as everybody (okay, New Line) hoped. It opened okay for a horror flick, with most of its $13,850,000 coming from under-25 males (What? Nobody thought to bring a date?). In animation news, Paramount's Barnyard continued its ride in the Top 10, sliding to the #6 slot. It made $7,489,000 in its 3rd week of business, inching towards making back the $51 million Paramount poured into this flick. Monster House dropped to #14, making just $1,900,000 in its 5th week. Unfortunately, Sony is nowhere near making back the $75 million bar tab on this movie. At this point, they may be hoping to recoup on DVD sales. Cars keeps slowly plugging along, adding another $405,000 to its $239,585,000 total. Safe to say that Disney/Pixar has won the "Most Profitable Animated Movie of 2006" award, topping a CG-glutted year. However, Cars is unlikely to hammer Ice Age 2's overseas gross (over $460 million). Dreamworks' Over the Hedge keeps adding dribs and drabs to its $154,488,000 gross, while it appears The Ant Bully has finally been put out of its (and our) misery. The summer glut has claimed another victim. Here are how each animated film did. 6) Barnyard: The Original Party Animals (Paramount): $7,489,000 ($45,995,000 after 3 weeks) 14) Monster House (Sony): $1,900,000 ($67,302,000 over 5 weeks) 20) Cars (BV): $405,000 ($239,585,000 over 11 weeks) 24) Over the Hedge (Dreamworks): $273,000 ($154,488,000 over 14 weeks)
