MTV Germany announced it would air all 10 episodes of the controversial animated satire Popetown series, citing positive viewer response.

"Our decision is based in part on the reaction of the viewers who clearly voted in favor of its broadcast," an MTV statement quoted executive Elmar Giglinger.

Lawyers representing bishops from Bavaria (Pope Benedict XVI's home state) unsuccessfully tried to have the series pulled, saying it was "blasphemous." They claimed it depicted alcoholic priests, mocked Catholic sacraments, and featured sexual references between two main characters. A Munich regional court disagreed, saying Popetown was "too dumb to be insulting."

The animated series was originally commissioned for the BBC who later declined to air it, saying it would offend Catholics.
