NBR calls Cars best animated filmNational Board of Review releases Best Of list for 2006
The non-profit National Board of Review of Motion Pictures calls Disney/Pixar's Cars the best animated movie of 2006.
(Source: www.bcdb.com) In what Disney and John Lasseter are hoping will raise their chances for Oscar glory, the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures named Cars the best animated movie of 2006. Director/writer John Lasseter's ode to the vanishing American highway was the most profitable animated movie of 2006, although Fox's Ice Age: The Meltdown surpassed it in overseas box office. Most critics enjoyed Cars, although many felt it wasn't as strong as previous Pixar flicks such as Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Previous winners of the NBR's Best Animated Film award include Tim Burton's Corpse Bride (2005), Pixar's The Incredibles (2004) and Finding Nemo (2003), Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away (2002), DreamWorks' Shrek (2001) and Aardman's Chicken Run (2000). The NBR honoured Clint Eastwood's as-yet unreleased Letters From Iwo Jima as the best film of 2006, while An Inconvenient Truth took Best Documentary Film. Pedro Almedovar's Volver took Best Foreign Film, while royal duo Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) and Helen Mirren (The Queen) took Best Actor and Actress awards respectively. The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures (also called the National Board of Review or NBR) was founded in 1909 in New York City to protest then-mayor George B. McClellan, Jr.'s suppression of motion-picture licenses. In 1929, it published its first list of the best movies of the year. The NBR's membership is mainly made up of fans and academics living in the NYC area.
