NFB short wins prize

National Film Board animated film wins Best Documentary Short at Vancouver's DOXA Festival.

John and Michael, an animated film about two men with Down's Syndrome, has won the Best Documentary Short Award at Vancouver's DOXA Documentary Film and Video Festival.

The National Film Board produced the 11-minute movie and Shira Avni directed it.

John and Michael, which was made in 2004, is about the close relationship two men with Down's Syndrome have with each other. It was made using clay animation on glass.

The Documentary Feature Award at the festival went to Daniel Gordon's A State of Mind, from the UK. Jeppe Ronde's The Swenkas, a Danish-African coproduction, received honourable mention.

Bombay Calling, by Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal, won the NFB Colin Low Award for Innovation in Canadian Film.
