Resident Evil is one of the most talked about and highly anticipated video game franchises worldwide.

Fans of the survival horror video game franchise Resident Evil will be overjoyed to know that the game is getting its own CGI animated movie entitled Resident Evil: Degeneration. It is produced by the game creators themselves, Capcom, and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan.

Who All Is Behind It?

After the live action films produced by Sony Entertainment and starring Milla Jovovich were a disappointment to purist fans of the game, the CGI film is a welcome addition to the franchise. It will be directed by Makoto Kamiya and produced by Jun Takeuchi, producer in chief for the newest - and as yet unreleased - game to the series, Resident Evil 5, and Hiroyuki Kobayashi. The film was written by Shutaro Suga.

Who Is Going to Star In It?

Resident Evil is one of the highest grossing games in the country, having sold thirty four million units since coming out in 1996. Each game has supplied players with thrills and chills as they battle various levels of biohazardous creations, most notably the zombies themselves. The running arc in the game is always a virus that causes the living dead to rise, and Degeneration seems to hold true to the nightmarish fun of the games. The film will follow Leon S. Kennedy (set to be voiced by Paul Mercier, the actor who voiced the character in Resident Evil 4) and Claire Redfield (who will be played by Alyson Court, the actress who has played the character throughout the games). They are two of the main protagonists from the game who made their first appearance together in Resident Evil 2. This is the first time the two have teamed up since then, though the two were in contact in the 2000 game Code: Veronica, which took place later the same year as Resident Evil 2. Claire, younger sister to Chris Redfield, star of the upcoming game, is now working for the NGO, helping victims of medical disasters and bioterrorism. She is there by chance, where as Leon was sent to the scene to deal with the incident.

Okay, But What About the Plot?

At the ’08 Comic Con, the plot of the film was revealed: bioterrorists had gotten hold of the T-virus and had let it loose in an airport somewhere in America. The film takes place seven years after the incident in Raccoon City and the events in Code: Veronica, and one year after Resident Evil 4.

The movie is set for theatrical release on October 18th, 2008 in Japan and a straight to DVD and blu-ray release on December 30th, 2008 for the United States.
