Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles will get a limited theatrical release on October 20. DVD comes out November 21.
(Source: Anime News Network) Harmony Gold and FUNimation announced that Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles will get a limited theatrical release on October 20. It's not known whether this is an attempt to prime the pump for a full-scale wide release in theatres, or merely more advertising for the DVD, due November 21. The animated movie, which is billed as "the first true sequel" to the 1985 series, successfully screened at various film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival in May. Several original-series voice actors, including Greg Snegoff (Scott Bernard), Tony Oliver (Rick Hunter) and Richard Epcar (Vince Grant) return for the sequel. Joining them will be Star Wars' Mark Hamill (voicing Commander Taylor) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Chase Masterson as the android Janice. Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles follows the Robotech Expeditionary Force's search for the missing Admiral Hunter and the SDF-3, but there is a new adversary waiting in the shadows. The movie combines traditional 2-D animation and cel-shaded CG mecha animation. Scott Glasgow composed the film's score, played by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
