Cars, Flushed Away, Over the Hedge, Monster House, Happy Feet and A Scanner Darkly are all up for a Saturn Award for Best Animated Film.
(Source: www.saturnawards.org) You know that whole, "You learn a new thing every day" schtick? Well, I had never even heard of the Saturn Awards until I stumbled onto this page. The Saturn Awards are the yearly love-fest done by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. According to the official website, this organization has been going since 1972, and was an outgrowth of the Count Dracula Society which was all about Gothic literature (natch). Apparently, they started hosting these awards in 1978 and have kept going ever since, whether or not they actually make it on television. Unlike the Oscars, the Saturns have a full slate of animated award nominations this year. Most of the noms are pretty safe (ie: North American, major studio and popular) but there are one or two surprises. Here's the full list:
The 33rd Annual Saturn Awards get handed out May 10th in Universal City. Greg Grunberg (Heroes) and standup comedian Jeffrey Ross will host.
