Massachusetts-based Kids Only! Inc. thinks it knows how to convince kids to drink more water. It's licensing cartoon characters such as Scooby-Doo and Superman and putting them on 8 and 16 ounce plastic bottles.

The company worked out agreements with Warner Bros., Marvel and MGA to display various cartoon characters on their plastic bottles. Different animated characters will be on the bottles each month, to attract collectors.

Kids Only! president Ron Cohen said that youngsters should be much more interested in drinking water if their favorite cartoon characters are on the bottles.

"We saw an opportunity in one of the fastest-growing beverage industries to tie in kids' favorite characters," he says. "Water is the healthiest drink in the world. It's only going to continue to be a growing business for our company and our retail partners."

The promotion is aimed at kids aged 5-12. The cartoon characters will encourage the kids to drink more water, and Cohen says the 8oz bottle will be perfect for kids' lunchboxes.

"Kids have to feel cool. Coolness is very important. The whole (problem of) obesity is important," he said.
