Okay, so I'm poaching on Odessa's Daytime TV turf on this one, but it's a slow news day.

Sesame Street has been an institution in children's programming since 1969. The show announced that they plan to concentrate on preparing children for school. That includes learning about emotions, developing task persistence, learning how to take turns, share or how to follow directions; making new friends or learning how to interact in a social group.

This season will introduce Sesame Street's first new character in over 13 years, Abby Caddaby, a pink "fairy in training." She will attend school with her friends Baby Bear, Jack and Jill, and Elmo. Mother Goose (played by Shirley "Partridge Family" Jones) will be her teacher.

Another aspect of this season will involve childhood cognitive development, social and emotional well-being, including the importance of knowing how to label and express emotions, and how to cope with feelings such as anger and disappointment. The show will also address how to understand and respond to other people's emotions.

On the lighter side, Sesame Street will offer their pop culture parodies such as Law & Order: Special Letters Unit M, Scramalot, The Breakfast Club and Survivor: Musical Chairs,, which features a muppet Jeff Probst look-alike. Grover will take on the role of Ty Pennington in Outrageous Makeover: Home Edition, where the veteran muppet literally paints himself into a corner.

Human guest stars will also show up on the street, such as actor Jamie Foxx, Today host Matt Lauer, musician John Legend, comedienne Amy Sedaris and Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight.

Sesame Street is funded in part by a grant through the Public Broadcasting Service and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and public television viewers.
