Online t-shirt marketer 80stees.com calls Skeletor best 80's cartoon villain in poll. Skull-headed toon won 24% of vote.
(Source: www.bcdb.com) He speaks in a whiny, high-pitched voice. His minions diss him to his face. A pompous, moral-spouting muscleman regularly hands him his ass. But Skeletor overcame all this to be named the "Best Cartoon Villain of the 1980's" in a poll conducted by online t-shirt marketers 80stees.com, announced Thursday. The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe villain won by a fair margin, capturing 24% of the popular vote. Megatron, who leads the evil Decepticons in Transformers, was the closest runner-up, taking 19.7%. Shredder, the ninja nemesis of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, placed third with 18.2%. Other 80's toon villains mentioned in the poll included Cobra Commander of G.I. Joe (16.1%), Gargamel from The Smurfs (8.8%), and Mumm-Ra of Thundercats (8.4%). The strangest contestant was The Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak (say that five times really fast) who terrorized Strawberry Shortcake and her pals. He took 3% of the vote. 80stees didn't say how many people voted in the poll. Ironically, both Megatron and Shredder are returning to cineplexes next year in big-screen adaptations of their respective franchises, while Skeletor hasn't been seen in public since the 2002 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated TV series tanked.
