Paramount Home Entertainment announced that they would release Star Trek: the Animated Series on DVD on November 21. Paramount emphasized that this is a "penciled" date only, and is subject to change. No further information (extras, etc.) has been announced yet.
Star Trek: the Animated Series was, for many years, considered the bastard stepchild of the Star Trek franchise, with creator Gene Roddenberry even disowning the series. It originally aired on NBC on Saturday, September 8, 1973. Former ST story editor DC Fontana produced the series, with Roddenberry as executive producer. It also featured the majority of the original cast reprising their roles, Walter "Chekhov" Koenig being the only exception. Koenig did however write the script for the episode "The Infinite Vulcan".
Despite the show winning an Emmy for Best Children's Series in 1975, it was cancelled after 22 episodes.
