More news from the upcoming CGI Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (otherwise known as TMNT among the desperately hip). A whole pile of people have been cast in the flick, which comes out March 23, 2007.
Leading the casting pack is Professor X himself: Patrick Stewart will voice the role of Max Winters, this movie's villain. Joining him will be Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) as Casey Jones, Sarah Michelle Gellar as April O'Neil and Zhang Ziyi (Memories of a Geisha) as Karai, the new leader of the evil Foot Clan. Indie director Kevin Smith will voice a cameo role as a greasy-spoon chef.
Unfortunately for Corey Feldman (who voiced Donatello in the 1980's movies), the movie producers announced that they will only cast unknown actors as the Turtles.
For all you completists, here's TMNT's synopsis, courtesy of Wikipedia (WARNING: possible spoiler alert): "After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family: Leonardo has been traveling the world for the last year, honing his skills. Raphael has been scouring the streets at night as a masked vigilante, taking a page from Casey Jones' book. Michelangelo has taken a job as an entertainer at children's parties, with Donatello's assistance. Struggling to keep the family together, Splinter then realizes that strange things are starting to happen in New York. Tech-industrialist, Max Winters is beginning to amass an army of ancient, evil creatures to help him take over the world, and furthermore, has enlisted the help of Karai, carrying on the legacy of her deceased master, The Shredder, and the Foot Clan to achieve that goal. The Turtles must unite amongst themselves, and enlist the help of their old allies, Casey Jones and April O'Neil in order to put a stop to Winter's plans and save the world."
Despite passing away earlier this year, Mako will still voice the role of Master Splinter in TMNT. According to director Kevin Munroe, the veteran actor had finished the majority of his work before his death.
