Toon Disney jumps on the anime bandwagon by devoting a Sunday night block to 5 animes, starting at 9 PM.

Toon Disney has finally realized that this anime craze (which officially kicked off in 1988 with Akira) isn't going away. To that end, they're devoting a Sunday night programming block (starting at 9 PM) to showing various titles. Toon Disney has shown individual animes before, but this is the first time the cable channel has devoted a block to Japanese animation.

Digimon kicks things off at 9pm (ET, PT) followed by Beyblade, Shinzo, Daigunder and Mon Colle Knights.

Toon Disney is playing it pretty safe with these animes. They've all been shown to North American audiences before, and none have any real edge to them. Digimon and Beyblade are epecially kiddie-friendly animes, bearing a strong resemblence to the more successful Pokémon.

The 5-program anime block will repeat on 1:30 AM Sunday night (just in case you were out in the bar, and need a late anime fix).

Toon Disney will also show Digimon Monday through Friday at 9 PM (EST, PT) as well as the French/Japanese series Oban Star Racer at 10 PM Saturday nights.
