Transformer Movie on DVDWidescreen, Full-Screen and Autobot Versions of 1986 Film for 20th Anniversary Edition
Transformers: The Movie 20th Anniversary Edition will come with 3 different versions, plus a featurette on next summer's live-action film.
(Source: ICv2) Count me among those who were underwhelmed by the Transformers phenomenon of the 1980s. Maybe it was because the TV show was little more than a half-hour toy commercial ("Look at what those Dinobots can do! You want to have a Dinobot of your very own, don't you? Don't you?"). Perhaps it was because everyone was so enthralled by the Transformers bandwagon that I freaked out and decided not to follow the lemmings off the cliff. Or I was channeling Naomi Klein 15 years in advance. Either way, I never saw the 1986 movie, and I don't feel my life is any the poorer for it. Be that as it may, there are enough Transformers fans out there that Sony/BMG is rolling out the treats for the 20th Anniversary Special Edition of Transformers: The Movie. It's a 2-disc set, that will feature 3 different versions of the same movie: the first is the widescreen, colour-corrected original theatrical version, not seen since it left theatres in 1986. The second is a full-screen version. And then there's the "Autobot Matrix of Knowledge Presentation" (no, I'm not making this up) version, which drops approximately 100 fun facts throughout the movie. Other extras include the original commercials for the toys and the movie, interviews and commentary, plus a featurette on the live-action Transformers movie, featuring producers Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg. Don Figueroa does the cover art. Transformers: The Movie hits DVD shelves on November 7, 2006.
