Universal Pictures to distribute 2nd VeggieTales movie.

Universal Pictures has bought the distribution rights to Big Idea Inc.'s 2nd full-length feature film, the upcoming The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie.

The Universal deal covers worldwide theatrical and home video rights, although the companies have not hammered out distribution plans in all countries.

The script, written by Phil Vischer, features the familiar VeggieTales characters going on a pirate adventure. Mike Nawrocki is set to direct, and Vischer will executive produce through his Jellyfish Labs imprint.

There appears to be some conflict with when the movie will be released. Variety and Coming Soon say the film is due in 2007, while IMDb and Hollywood Reporter say the film will hit theatres in 2008.

Big Idea Inc.'s first feature film, 2002's Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie made $25.6 million in theatres. To date, VeggieTales have sold over 47 million videos and seven million albums.
