VIFF honours Norman McLarenfilm festival pays tribute to NFB animator
Vancouver International Film Festival joins ranks of those honouring Canadian animation legend Norman McLaren.
(Source: Big Cartoon Database) 2006 is quickly becoming the Year of Norman McLaren. Now the Vancouver International Film Festival has announced that they will follow in Cannes and TIFF's footsteps, and also show a McLaren tribute. The Norman McLaren Retrospective is essentially the same program that played at Cannes last May, featuring such shorts as Opening Speech (1961); Stars and Stripes (1941); Hen Hop (1942); A Chairy Tale (1957) (made with Claude Jutra); the Palme d'Or-winning Blinkity Blank (1955); the Oscar-winning Neighbours (1952); and the ballet film Pas de Deux (1968). The NFB will release Norman McLaren: The Master Edition on DVD in Canada this fall. For those of you who don't know who Norman McLaren is, go here or here. Also read here.
