2006 is quickly becoming the Year of Norman McLaren. Now the Vancouver International Film Festival has announced that they will follow in Cannes and TIFF's footsteps, and also show a McLaren tribute.

The Norman McLaren Retrospective is essentially the same program that played at Cannes last May, featuring such shorts as Opening Speech (1961); Stars and Stripes (1941); Hen Hop (1942); A Chairy Tale (1957) (made with Claude Jutra); the Palme d'Or-winning Blinkity Blank (1955); the Oscar-winning Neighbours (1952); and the ballet film Pas de Deux (1968).

The NFB will release Norman McLaren: The Master Edition on DVD in Canada this fall.
