Home Media Magazine, in association with TVShowsOnDVD.com, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and The Hollywood Reporter, are presenting the 4th Annual TV DVD Awards, which honour the best DVD's released this past year. And they want you to help them decide which shows deserve to be honoured.
Here's the official announcement taken from the TV DVD site:
"It’s time for the fourth annual TV DVD Awards, and we want your input. Here’s your chance to vote on the best TV DVD releases of the past year! A panel of judges took a look at nearly 160 entries submitted by the studios and independent suppliers, released between Sept. 1, 2006, and Sept. 30, 2007, and narrowed the choices down to four nominees in each of the 16 categories. Now we’re asking you to help select the overall winner in each category! Simply click on one of the four nominees in each category and when you’re done press submit.”
Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock Season 3 DVD set is up for Best 1980's Series, while The Muppet Show Season 2 contends for Best 1970's Series and Best Children's Series, taking on Lionsgate's The Best of Clifford the Big Red Dog and Dinosaurs Seasons 3 & 4 in the latter category.
The Best Animated Series category looks like a rough match-up, with BCI's Dungeons and Dragons: The Complete Series going up against Fox's Family Guy Volume 5 and The Simpsons: Season 10, and Paramount/Comedy Central's South Park: Season 10.
FUNimation's DragonBall Z: Season 1 is taking on all comers in the Best Foreign TV Series, including fellow FUNimation contender BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad Season 1.
The organizers ask voters to "please base your decision not just on the actual show, but also on the DVD TREATMENT — special features, menus, ease of navigation, packaging, sound and picture, etc."
You can surf over here to see the contenders and vote for your favourite shows on DVD.
According to the site, online voting ends Oct. 26. The winners will be announced Monday, Nov. 12, during a gala dinner and cocktail reception at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, CA.
Fun Fact: Ryusuke, the main character in BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, calls his Gibson guitar Lucille. This is a tribute to Memphis blues legend B.B. King, who always gave that name to his main guitar, now a Gibson signature model. According to B.B. King, the name came about after he had to rescue his guitar from a fire in a club started by two men who were fighting over a woman named Lucille.
