Disney/Pixar's WALL-E will receive 4 DVD releases. PLUS: Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, Ponyo on a Cliff, is coming to America.

The Walt Disney Company is bringing out the big guns for WALL-E on DVD, giving the Andrew Stanton film not one . . . not 2 . . . not three . . . but 4 DVD releases.

According to DVDizzy.com, Disney Home Video is packing in the extras for these DVD releases, unlike the comparatively bare-bones releases for Pixar's previous two films (Cars and Ratatouille, for those keeping score).

The first release is a 2-disc set in DD 5.1 digital sound, featuring audio commentary from director Stanton, deleted scenes, Doug Sweetland's short film Presto (which played before WALL-E in theatres, a new short called BURN-E, and "Animation Sound Design" featurette, and another featurette, called "WALL-E's Tour of the Universe." You can get all this for $29.99 MSRP.

For serious Pixar fans, there's also a 3-Disc Special Edition DVD ($39.99 MSRP) which features even more deleted scenes, making-of featurettes, some BnL shorts, a documentary called The Pixar Story, "WALL-E's Treasures and Trinkets", a "Lots of Bots" storybook, plus a DisneyFile digital copy, which allows you to easily upload the movie onto your computer or portable mp3 player.

Of course the Blu-Ray crowd gets even more cheese for their devotion. The 2-Disc Blu-ray ($35.99 MSRP) set comes with everything mentioned above, plus an exclusive an BURN-E picture-in-picture, Cine-Explore, Axiom Arcade, Geek Track, and BD-Live features. The 3-Disc Blu-ray ($40.99 MSRP) has all of the above, plus its own digital copy (see above).

All these WALL-E DVDs are coming on November 18th.

Ponyo on a Cliff Going to Venice, Coming to America?

Hayao Miyazaki fans rejoice; the anime maestro's latest film, Ponyo on a Cliff (Gake no Ue no Ponyo in Japan), is a bona fide hit.

The animated flick topped the Japanese box office for 5 weeks (the same number of weeks The Dark Knight enjoyed at the top of the domestic heap) and made 10 billion yen ($91 million) in its first month in theatres.

According to Yahoo, a spokesman for the film's Japanese distributor, Toho Co. Ltd., claimed that Ponyo on a Cliff will be released in the United States. Details aren't available yet, but it's likely The Walt Disney Company, Studio Ghibli's usual North American distributor, will do the honours. No date has been set yet, but apparently any North American release date will be after the film appears at the Venice Film Festival in September.

According to IMDb, a U.K. release date for Ponyo has already been set for April 3, 2009.
