Weekend Box Office (Oct. 13 - 15)Open Season drops to 4th, Barnyard plummets to 23
Open Season hangs on in the Top 10, while Everyone's Hero is truly certified as a box office bomb.
(Source: www.boxofficemojo.com) (Writer's note: in case you're wondering why I take so long with the Weekend Box Office listing, it's because BOM takes a while to publish its full list, which includes some of the movies I'm discussing) Open Season managed to hang on during a weekend that didn't have much in the way of hot new movies; the only flick that managed to push down the Sony pic was the top-rated, live-action The Grudge 2. That left Open Season holding the 4th spot this past weekend, making another $11,112,795. Industry watchers are still wondering if this movie has enough puff to make back its $85 million price tag. So far, it's made $59,267,065 over 4 weeks in theatres. Not a bad run for Open Season (considering the season), but not great. However, it does have until November 3 to make its pile, when the next batch of animated movies (Flushed Away and Happy Feet) hit theatres. That horseshoe that Paramount's Barnyard: The Original Party Animals had stuck in its . . . you know, is starting to slip. That movie slid to #23, making another $258,892 to its $72,106,304 total. That brings it one spot above mid-summer competitor Monster House, which raked in $240,937, bringing its 13-week total to $73,394,814. However, that's still shy of its $75 million cost, which still places the other Sony flick in the bomb category. Meanwhile, Everyone's Hero confirmed its bomb status by falling to #31. In comparison, this flick has only made $162,840 in its 5th week, earning a grand total of $14,129,701. Stick a fork in this sucker, boys. It's done. Here's the full list: 4) Open Season (Sony): $11,112,795 ($59,267,065 over 3 weeks) 23) Barnyard: The Original Party Animals (Paramount): $258,892 ($72,106,304 over 11 weeks) 24) Monster House (Sony): $240,937 ($73,394,814 over 13 weeks) 31) Everyone's Hero (Fox): $162,840 ($14,129,701 over 5 weeks) 33) The Ant Bully (W.B.): $138,633 ($27,765,159 over 12 weeks) 46) Cars (Buena Vista): $83,225 ($244,052,771 over 19 weeks) 78) Renaissance (Miramax): $9,815 ($63,260 over 4 weeks)
