A spokesman for MTV2 says it is considering never airing an episode of the half-hour cartoon Where My Dogs At? again, after watchers denounced it as "misogynistic."
In the episode "Woofie Loves Snoop," a cartoon character called Snoopathon Esquire III (a parody of rapper Snoop Dogg) walks into a pet store accompanied by two bikini-clad black women wearing leashes and collars. One of the women squats and scratches herself like a dog after Snoop (voiced by Jason Alexander) orders her to "hand me my latte," and the other woman defecates on the floor.
Where My Dogs At? aired at 12:30 PM on Saturday mornings.
Paul Porter, founder of watchdog group IndustryEars.com, denounced the episode in an interview with The New York Post.
"This only serves to reinforce negative images of women, conveying to kids on a Saturday afternoon that all women are bitches and hos," Porter said. "In my 10 years of monitoring children's programming, I've never seen anything this offensive."
The R.E.A.C. Hip-Hop Coalition also denounced the episode as "misogynistic" and asked MTV to never show the episode again.
MTV2 spokesman Jeff Castaneda claimed "Woofie Loves Snoop" was a misunderstood attempt to satirize the popular rapper. Snoop Dogg brought leashed and collared women to a recent public appearance.
"We certainly do not condone Snoop's actions, and the goal was to take aim at that incident for its insensitivity and outrageousness," he said. "Even one of the dogs, a main character on the show, states, 'I find that degrading, and I am a dog.'"
Castaneda also said that Where My Dogs At? may not return next season.
