Anime channel in Canada

For those of you excited about the upcoming Anime Channel, here's a response to viewer emails.

I've had quite a few questions from people excited about the CRTC approving YTV's application for The Anime Channel, a Category 2 specialty channel playing . . . you guessed it. Because I'm too tired (read: hung over) to respond to all your emails individually, I'll just answer your questions here.

- YTV made the application to the CRTC to create the Anime Channel. Since Corus Entertainment owns YTV, they're the guys who will be working this up. Just for the record, Corus also owns Treehouse, The W Network, Movie Central and SCREAM.

- I have no idea when the Anime Channel will be up and running, and I've seen no announcements since my original story. YTV has a maximum of 36 months (3 years) to set it up so expect something within that time frame.

- Yes, the Anime Channel will air adult anime content. In fact, the Anime Channel will be "targeted exclusively to adults over the age of 18" (that's a quote from the CRTC's statement).

- Yes, I will be keeping an eye on this story, and I'll let you know the juicy details as it develops.
