Now that Disney Princesses draws over $3 billion for the company per year (yes, you read that right!), Disney is now creating Disney Fairies, in the hopes of plundering little girls' (and their parents) purses.

The mayhem began in 2005, when Newbury Award winner Gail Carson Levine wrote Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg for the company. The book went on to hit the New York Times bestseller list, selling over a million copies. Levine is currently working on a sequel to the book, while other books, toys, DVD's, playsets and all manner of spin-off merchandise hit stores.

The crown of all this Fairies activity will hit in 2007, when The Tinkerbell Movie is released. The buzz for this film, which was made at Prana Studios in India and features Brittany Murphy as the title character, is very strong, which means there may (read: very likely) be a theatrical release.

Disney Fairies is already meeting sales expectations, so Disney is already kicking around ideas for Disney bunnies, dwarves, trains, mermaids and trains.

All's fair in love and advertising, but has Disney gone too far in its quest to make a buck? Strike back below.
