Okay, so I've written several articles about Farfur, the Mickey Mouse clone that Hamas has cooked up to turn all good little Palestinian boys and girls into Islamist terrorists. At first, Al-Aqsa TV acceded to the Palestinian Information Minister's demand that they take Tomorrow's Pioneers (the show Farfur hosts) off the air. Then Al-Aqsa TV turned around and aired the show in its usual Friday slot, even as Hamas fought Fatah in street battles that claimed 9 lives, and wounded 70.
"Okay, Dominic," you ask. "Why are you getting worked up over this? What's so freaky about a bunch of Middle East crazies putting on a TV show?"
What truly bothers me about Farfur and Tomorrow's Pioneers is what it says about Hamas and their ideals. Let's skip over the movement's virulent anti-Semitism: that's nothing new in a territory where Adolf Hitler's book Mein Kampf hit 6th on the bestseller list in September, 1999. And let's pass on the show's espousal of the AK-47 or the suicide bomber as legitimate means of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian question: both sides have proven themselves more than willing to kill rather than negotiate.
What's truly disturbing about Tomorrow's Pioneers is the way it promotes an Islamist ideal similar to Third Reich National Socialism. When 'Uncle Hazem' (Al-Aqsa TV deputy director Hazem Al-Shawa'ari) tells children that a world living under Islamist rule will promote "good, love and justice," while his comrades kill other Palestinians, he is not far removed from Mein Kampf's proposal of global domination.
“We have said more than once” Farfur said, "that becoming masters of the world requires the following: First, to be happy with our Arabic language, which once upon a time ruled this world."
“We remind you that we, the great ones, started this program to lead this world,” said Saraa’. “The nucleus, with the will of Allah, will be from here, from Palestine. We will carry the concern of this nation that awaits us.”
Also disturbing are specific mentions of territories that were once under Muslim control and, according to Tomorrow's Pioneers, will be again.
"Do you remember Andalus (the Muslim term for the area which contains Spain and Portugal)?" 'Uncle Hazem' asked last Friday. "This dear Andalus will return one day."
Much like Nazi ideology, Tomorrow's Pioneers cobbles together a rag-tag history of how Islam once ruled the world and, through the sacrifice of Muslim children everywhere, will do so again. They stretch and invent historical facts to justify this vision, claiming that a future paradise of Islamic love and justice can be attained through battalions of suicide bombers.
“Many say that we had glory (in the past) and we had culture,” said Saraa’. “And the Muslims had greatness and respect.”
In one segment, Farfur uses English phrases in a comedic manner: "How are you, Saraa'? I hope to be good time."
When Saraa' denounces him, saying, "I thought we agreed to speak only literary Arabic," Farfur defends speaking in English because, "this is the language of the advanced world."
“No, Farfur, you are wrong (to speak English) because you don’t know that the Muslims are the basis for civilization," Saraa' chides. "If not for the Muslims, the world wouldn’t have got to where it is today.”
"Ask history," Al-Shawa'ari asked on Friday's show, "and ask the Jews did they live in a time period better than the one they lived under Islam. And ask the Christians how their security was assured in their churches and monasteries."
This from a movement that is currently killing other Palestinians. This from a movement that uses the Al-Aqsa Mosque as a rallying point to justify killing Jews, a building that was originally a Christian church before the Muslims grabbed it.
"We remind you, dear children," added Saraa', "that the glory and the civilization of the (Islamic) nation, you shall restore."
This is sick stuff, and not just because it's being delivered by a costumed character that clearly violates Disney copyrights. Encouraging children to embrace war as a means of resolving disputes, and approving as they say, "We will annihilate the Jews. I will commit martyrdom" only ensures that their corpses will prolong the Middle East nightmare. Not only that, it provokes future cries of (to quote Terry Pratchett): "Remember the atrocity committed against us which justifies the atrocity we commit today!"
"Well, hold on," you might ask. "But Mickey Mouse is just a tool for American cultural imperialism. Shouldn't Hamas be applauded for taking this icon of the Great Satan and using it against itself?"
First off, whether or not you buy into the theory that Mickey Mouse is a tool for the American propaganda machine, no one can argue that Mickey ever preached genocide. Certainly, Mickey did his part to mobilize American people during the dark days of World War II but everyone knows the Nazis started that one. Did Mickey Mouse ever justify suicide bombing? Did Mickey Mouse ever explicitly call for world domination? Farfur has, and continues to do so.
Diane Disney-Miller, the only surviving daughter of Walt Disney, denouced Farfur and Tomorrow's Pioneers as disseminating "pure evil."
She's right. All Hamas' Mouse is doing is ensuring more children will die in a conflict that no one can win. If that isn't evil, I don't know what is. Here endeth the rant.
