It's been a while since I posted here. I didn't realize that you hadn't experienced the full flavor of Crayon Shin-Chan while we were having our previous discussion. This is what I was saying before.

Compared to Japan, America is quite repressed in what it considers acceptable for broadcast television. Full frontal nudity and child endangerment/abuse are not uncommon in Japanese television.

Yeah, there's not a lot of Shin-Chan available in English language dub or subtitled. DVD rentals laid an egg and most of what's posted online was in Japanese, Korean or Spanish.

However what I did see had me rolling on the floor. If the rest of Shin-Chan is as funny as what I saw, I could see this becoming another Family Guy/Robot Chicken-style animated hit.

Speaking of endangerment, I once saw a Japanese version of America's Funniest Home Videos. Some of that stuff was pretty sadistic!

Hi. Again, it's been a long time since I last posted. You should check out YOUTUBE.COM and search for "japanese pork chop". Choose the third video down. Another one not as funny is "japanese polar bear". Another fine example of how American television has nothing on the Japanese.
I remember a "Fear Factor"- like show on Japanese television in the 70's or 80's.
There was a show I saw when I visited Japan. It was a haunted house setting, the contestants were children, probably age 6 and younger, in pairs. Much like Fear Factor, the kids had to compete in challenges while people who worked for the show jumped out in costume to frighten them. The first team that wasn't scared out of the house won.
There's even one that is totally NC-17 rated. Men shoot water guns at naked girls wrapped in toilet paper. The first guy to uncover the girl's breasts wins.
There's a new show on called Challenges of Fire where contestants attempt to complete tasks for $10,000. One has 4 year old kids on a street lined with small shops. The kid has 10 minutes to buy 3 specific item and get back to mom on their own. On a show called I'm Old Enough, the whole hour is devoted to following terrified children as they attempt to help the family out by running errands on their own.
There's a show that airs on the Spike TV called MXC, or Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. You've got to see it to believe it.

I just found another one on YOUTUBE.COM called "japanese tongue twister". Incredible!

It's been a long time, but I hope you will read this.
By the way, I live in Hawaii (and am Japanese-American). There's a basic cable channel that broadcasts Japanese programming. That's how I'm so familiar with most of this.

One word: yeek! What was that lizard, a gila monster? I won't post the link here because it's not animation but that's definitely pushing the boundaries. I guess those girls have to sign some serious release forms so they can't sue the TV show if that lizard bites them and they have to go get rabies shots.

Yeek is the word. Actually, I thought it was a young komodo dragon.

I guess I got carried away and forgot that this was the ANIMATED film page, but I just think that Japanese TV is so outrageous. Anyone who laughs at the Jackass stunts will appreciate this stuff.

Hi auntydle!

I've been looking for I'm Old Enough for so long. I've contacted NTV, KTSF (Bay Area channel where I first saw this series) and even posted to several forums looking for any information on this show. I was wondering if you know if this series is available for sale. Or even know a local video store that carries the title?

I've only seen 2 episodes and I'd love to see the entire show. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank You
dennis manzano
